An action double is any double where the side on roll has a collection of immediate shots that swing the game heavily in his favor, with good gammon chances. In this episode, I’ll show you how to spot these positions when they appear in the early and middle game, and how to recognize which ones are good doubles, which ones aren’t, and what you should do when your opponent offers you an action double. I’ll also look at some endgame positions where a sudden shot possibility gives the position some of the characteristics of a middle game action double. Recognizing these positions and handling them correctly is a key skill that separates the pros from the amateurs.
