In this episode, I’m going to show you some positions from very early in the game, and give you some guidelines for making early doubles. Most early positions aren’t doubles, so if the cube is bouncing around quickly in your games, either you or your opponent is probably a little quick on the trigger. But occasions do arise where you can get a solid edge and make a good double, so I’ll show you what those positions look like. I’ll also describe what’s known as “Sylvester’s Rule”, a good way for analyzing early position in terms of three key categories: the race, the position, and the threats. When you’ve finished this video, you’ll know what to look for when offering an early double, and if your opponent tries to bluff you by doubling early, you’ll know how to stand up to him.
