In this first episode, I’m going to review some of the basic theory of doubling and taking. I’ll talk about the 25% rule for taking, how much of an edge you need to make a good double, and how you can punish a bad double with a beaver. I’ll describe the power of cube ownership, and why you don’t want to double too quickly in the early game. I’ll also discuss how to evaluate doubles and takes when gammons are involved, and how many extra wins you need to compensate for some gammon losses.
