Using the Doubling Cube: In this episode, well start to look at how to use the doubling cube properly. Knowing when to offer a double and when to take a double is one of the key skills in playing backgammon well, and probably the hardest skill for beginners to master. Well see when to double and when to take in bearoffs, races, blitzes, and some typical middle game positions. Well see how to do a pip count, well learn how to use the 8-9-12 rule in races, and well learn some simple criteria for offering powerful doubles in middle game positions. When were done, youll have a much better grasp of how to use the cube to put pressure on your opponents and win more money from your good positions.
