Poker Coach – Emil Jonsson

I started playing poker late 2005. I had seen it on TV and one day my friends suggested we start up our own game. I was working in film and theatre at the time and it was the psychology of poker which first attracted me to the game.

The homegame eventually died out and so I took the scary step of depositing about to an online poker room. I dabbled in No-Limit at first but soon transitioned to playing exclusively Limit Hold'em which seemed to suit my personality better. I began playing micro-stakes full ring tables and slowly worked myself up to where I am today, playing as high as $50/$100 shorthanded if the game conditions are right.

I quickly realized that if I was going to have any sort of longevity and long term success in this game, I would have to really commit to studying it. I borrowed all the books I could find on Limit Hold'em and spent countless hours searching the net for any information I could find about the game. I wanted to rid myself of the awkwardness I felt every time I was faced with a decision at the table to which I had no answer. Soon training sites came along and the amount of valuable information you could get at the drop of a hat was unprecedented. It sure helped me a lot in becoming the player I am today, that and endless messing around with Pokerstove and a calculator.

I went pro early 2008. I was working in a grocery store for some extra cash and one day I got fired. I guess I didn't care that much since I had all that money coming in from poker and so I decided to not do anything else for a while to see how it went. I'm glad and thankful that everything has worked out as well as I had hoped. I still work a lot with acting and directing on stage and screen but today most of my money comes from online poker.

This is my first ever poker coaching job and I'm thrilled to be here. I've always enjoyed teaching and I hope my unique way of approaching Limit Hold'em counterbalances Paul Hoppe's to the extent that he himself envisioned when he had the crazy idea of bringing me on.

I'm really excited to work with you guys. Heck, I still want to improve. This is as an important reason as any for me joining the coaching staff at DTB. I already know a lot of great poker players who I learn tons from but it's the day to day interaction with DTB members that will really help me to stay at the top of my game.

Nothing but love,
Emil Andersson
