COACHES
Nathan Williams - aka "Blackrain79"
I was a regular kid who grew up in the suburbs of Vancouver. I was highly competitive and obsessed with sports and games. I also loved video games as well and had dreams of becoming a professional Starcraft player. But by the age of 24 I still had no real direction in my life. I had just graduated from Simon Fraser University with a BA in History but I had no plan from there.
I was first introduced to poker shortly after that at a Halloween party in 2004. We each put in 5 bucks. A friend of mine taught us how to play and I luckboxed the win. The very next day I made an account on Partypoker and started with play money. I started winning right away. I realized that all I had to do was play tight and they would hand me their chips. It was at that point that I realized there was a skill aspect to poker. And I became obsessed with trying to master this game from that day forward.
I switched over to Pokerstars in 2005 and continued with the play money tables until I had amassed about 5 million chips. I found out that you could sell those chips and got $60 for them. I have never looked back to this day.
I began playing the penny tables and slowly worked my way up in the incredibly soft games of 2005-2008. I quit my job in 2007 while my main game was NL$100. But I never took it as seriously as I should have once I turned pro. I was very lazy and didn't really play much. It is only in the past year or so that I have begun to change that attitude.
Unfortunately I let my bankroll dwindle to critical levels and was stuck playing millions of hands at the penny tables. It gained me a lot of fame, both good and bad, when PTR began tracking my play in the fall of 2009. Unfortunately however, I wasn't making much more than a minimum wage job.
Fast forward to today, the fall of 2010, and I am being staked and mentored by DTB's Matt Bolt. I am now fully committed to achieving my potential in this game and rising through the stakes.
I am absolutely thrilled to join DTB. I lurked Stox for years, especially to read Dusty's blogs. And there are so many other great coaches here that it is truly an honor to be a part of this. My strength is micro-stakes full ring NL. I look forward to making videos in this area and helping DTB members improve their games.
