Default range in BB against SB 3bet vs. button steal

    hi everybody!

btn: no reads - only 17hands - nothing out of line till now...
SB: also very few hands, but marked as TAG from a lower limit so i assume a top 20% 3b range

    $2/$4 (6 max) - Holdem - 5 players
    Hand converted by PokerTracker 3

    UTG: $65.15
    CO: $55.70
    BTN: $175.50
    SB: $141.65
    Hero (BB): $110.75

SB posts SB $1.00, Hero posts BB $2.00

    Pre Flop: ($3.00) Hero has Q J

fold, fold, BTN raises to $4.00, SB raises to $6.00, Hero ???

how should i aproach this spot?
    - capping range?
    - do we ever coldcall 2 bets here? or is it cap or fold?

is there maybe a video somewhere which covers this spot?

    looking forward to your replies

    thx a lot!

Default Re: range in BB against SB 3bet vs. button steal

    Hey Grisu.

My immediate thought was that it doesn’t really matter, followed by an immediate change of mind that I’d fold here.

For me, the crux of the matter is that we basically have no extra information to work with (walking into a game with no reads, no history, no game dynamic) and playing this hand out forever, I think folding is correct. The little things pretty much sway the closer decisions. With this very same lack of info, I’d be capping AQo+. The SB’s 3b range is of particular concern (is it really a full 20%?).

Coldcalling isn’t really a strong point of mine. While I do it, I’m completely unbalanced when I do and it’s probably a leak. GB released a good vid on the subject. While it doesn’t cover this exact situation, this doesn’t seem to meet his criteria for coldcalling. Basically, it looks like we are trying to squeeze equity out of a pretty marginal situation. It would be great to get his input.

I too look forward to replies.
