View Full Version : AJ Push with my Small Stack when there's a micro stack left on the bubble?

Hi everyone!

A hand which makes me sick! I really feel that this was a fold, or? Especially when there's another micro stack. My reason for pushing here was in first case to accumulate chips for the ITM game and didn't want to fold in the money left with a stack of almost zero chance.

Was this too much of an aggressive move or what do you think?

Full Tilt Poker, $200/400 No Limit Hold'em Tournament, 4 Players
Hand Converter (http://www.pokerhand.org/hand-converter.aspx) by Pokerhand.org (http://www.pokerhand.org)

Board:
kaosen (CO): $3,480
alejandro8a (Button): $870
MarcJLH (SB): $1,420
oresgumb (BB): $7,730

Dealt to MarcJLH J:spade: A:diamond:

Pre-flop:
kaosen calls $400, (1 folds), MarcJLH raises to $1,420 and is all-in, (1 folds), kaosen calls $1,020

Flop: ($3,440) 6:spade: 7:club: T:spade: (2 Players)

Turn: ($3,440) 9:heart: (2 Players)

River: ($3,440) 3:diamond: (2 Players)

Results:
MarcJLH Showed J:spade: A:diamond:
kaosen Showed A:heart: 7:heart:
kaosen wins $3,240

From maths perspective I guess this is an obvious fold, or? But with the sense of accumulating chips for later I did this move!

Thanks a lot in advance.

WHat to do in these situations is explained here:

Yeah! I've read it at least 2 times. Great article. Everything is explained that simple and it's much more clear to me.

Thanks.

Honestly I like the push because you are giving yourself a chance to surpass the shortstack and the second place stack if you double.

I would push this hand and would be very surprised if SNG wizard said to fold using accurate BB calling ranges.

If you don't push this hand you are basically banking on the short stack being bubbled out but that won't happen this round and many times they will get lucky and double up making you the short stack. Pushing a hand this strong is the only play because you still want to give yourself a chance to not settle for 3rd place here.

Thanks for your advice, Greg. This was exactly my thought when I pushed AJ. I wanted to give myself really a chance not only becoming 3rd... This happened too much to me in the past: The short stack doubled up in the next hand instead of bubbling out and I was the new short stack and had an even harder game to play.
