Ya it is really awesome and eye opening to experience a totally different place. I may have to do this some more! I am planning on staying in SE Asia (mostly Thailand) for several more months still. Playing a little bit here and there. There are actually tons of grinders especially Americans, Brits, Canadians that live here.

Hand 5

As this is about the "turn", after I was already silly enough to c-bet. I would check, give up, because his range is so wide. If he is a fish there will be many more opportunities on future hands.

Hand 4

I check. I have showdown value and I don't feel as if I have much fold equity.

Hand 3

Bet for value. The moniker fish means he is calling with a huuuuge range.

Hand 2
(Villain would only call, not check call on flop)
We can easily represent an ace on turn. I bet the turn. How big of a bet? Just over 1/2 pot, 2/3 pot?

Hand 1
I think a check is good . If he checks then I check looking to hit my ten(not spades) or one of my face cards that aren't spades. Of course it wouldn't hurt to look at his stats before making the decision. Does he have a high or low "call c-bet on flop or turn"?
And depending on his position to me and history with me I may change my mind. Has he always seen me show the goods or do I bet the turn on this one and sacrifice a little so that I can show the bluff so that when I do have a big hand I can be assured that he will call all the way.

"So oftentimes barreling versus a stationy reg for instance on 9974 is bad because if he called the flop with his 88 why would he fold when the turn is a meaningless 4?"

The urge we get to double barrel comes from a couple of mistaken, but easily arrived at thought process. If I as a "TAG" raise pre flop then I am trying to represent power and we are trying to show that we don't care that he called because we have such a good hand and we are hoping that our bet on the turn will make the player fold his medium strength hand or his weak draw with knowledge that not only does he have to put in that bigger turn bet, but also a big river bet may come. ( Remember I am coming at this from the raiser's perspective)
The other reason is the helpless feeling that can come when we feel like we have to check. Especially out of position. We know that a bet will be coming and we hate seeing all of our initiative and strength leaving and then we know we can only fold to any bet that comes. Common enough I am sure, because we all hate to lose money that we have had to work so hard to get out of the miserly regulars.

Great commentary on this video. I have never worked with Jared before on the mental side of the game, but I can definitely see how he helps people with their games. Also, there is a great discussion in here about how silly it is to be obsessed with the all in EV calculator. Obviously, you don't want to see it headed straight down, but for a good player to focus on it and feel entitled to the whatever the # is can hurt your game. Hunter also makes some great comments about how spending time on your game isn't enough unless it is quality time. Def worth listening to.
